What you need to know
  • A business hotel 3 minutes walk from Hakata Station Chikushiguchi exit — optimised for short stays and transit, not for extended family holidays or driving trips
  • At ¥7,976 all-in for one night — one of the best value stays of the whole Kyushu trip for what you get, including a public bath and quality amenities
  • Two buildings — Central has the bath, breakfast, parking and luggage storage; West guests walk to Central for these facilities
  • Mechanical parking with only 16 spaces (¥1,800/night, first come first serve, no reservations) — not recommended if you’re on a multi-day driving holiday
  • Download the APA app (アパ直) before arriving — faster check-in via QR code scan, note that check-in machines are cash only without the app

In July 2026 I stayed at the APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi and it was a little bit like a Swiss army knife because it’s not only really functional and utilitarian, it’s optimized to serve the needs of a “businessman” traveling in Japan.

APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi is a business hotel from the APA Hotels chain and there are two buildings: Central and West that make up the whole hotel. They are meant to be for salarymen on work trips and so everything is optimised for someone like that.

But tourists can absolutely stay at business hotels too, and I will let you know what my experience staying at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi was like and why you might want to consider staying there on your next trip to Fukuoka.

Photos on this page are mine, shot on an iPhone 11 pro.

How to get to APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi

APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi (as the name suggests) is really close to Hakata Station Chikushiguchi station exit and is only a 3 minute walk away.

Parking at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi

APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi has a parking facility and it cost ¥1,800 per night for hotel guests. It is one of those mechanical parking garages where your car goes inside and the machine stacks it. There are only 16 parking spaces and it’s first come first serve and they don’t accept reservations.

For me I parked at the Ekihigashi Parking Lot just beside the hotel instead as I was dropping off the rental car that day. It’s a multistory car park and with more spaces and none of the troublesome stuff. But the parking rate is ¥300/hour, so it really adds up if you are parking overnight.

Unfortunately due to the facilities, this is not a great hotel if you are driving. It’s better if you are taking public transport or if you are picking/dropping off a rental car.

What’s the difference between the Central and West?

The main differences between the Central and West building are just the type of rooms available and facilities.

🏨 Central vs West — What’s the Difference?

Both buildings share the same hotel brand — but the facilities and room types differ

Checking in at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi

APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi Central lobby with self check-in kiosks, staff counter, and a baggage scale beside the machines.
The check in lobby. It looks like a casino with slot machines.

Checking in can be done via the APA app or via the automated check in machines in the lobby. The lobby actually looks like the inside of a casino and the row of check in machines feel like the slot machines.

The automatic check in machines only accept card payment. If not you might have to check in via the staff counter to the left.

Check in via the app

The APA official app (アパ直) is really convenient, you can import the reservation into the app, make payments and check in on the app itself. Once you reach the hotel you can just scan the QR code at the check in machines and you are done.

If you don’t have the app you can still check in via the machines and it is still really fast and convenient.

Check in time is from 3pm onward and check out is at 10am.

Checking Out

When checking out there is a box where you can just deposit your room card in before leaving.

The Room: Central Wing Standard Room for 2 People with Public Bath

Central standard room with the bed, window, wall-mounted TV, and writing desk.

When you first enter the Standard Room, you will realise immediately how compact everything is. The table is long and narrow with everything placed there instead of having a cupboard or dedicated amenities section. The suitcases have to be put underneath the bed when not in use.

The bed is about 200cm by 140cm, a Japanese semi double size comfortable for two people and is actually an APA Original mattress design called “Cloud fit Grand”. It is slightly on the harder side as beds go but it is still really comfortable and I slept really well on it.

Two APA Original Pillows “PRIDE FIT” and “ADJUST FIT”, are provided. One is soft and one is harder but I’m not sure which is which. Both were really comfortable too especially the harder one for me.

The table is narrow but still suitable for working conditions. But it does feel compact with the bed behind the chair and giant television above making you feel slightly claustrophobic.

The Standard Room does not have a dedicated amenity section or cupboard like other hotels do. Instead they are placed on the table or in the drawers. Amenities in the room include a kettle, bottled water, coffee and tea packets etc.

On the table and behind the beds there are universal power outlets with usb charging. Some of the hotels in Japan still don’t have a universal power socket so it is quite a welcome sight. I didn’t notice an air purifier in the room, but I think the air conditioner unit comes with a function to deodorize the room and get rid of airborne viruses. Pretty cool actually.

Another cool thing in the room is the television set. Besides watching shows it has a dashboard that displays a lot of information such as the WiFi password, when you checked in and when your check out date is and which is the next day for cleaning. You can even check the queue for breakfast and the public baths.

Central Wing Standard Room Toilet

Unit bathroom in a standard room with a compact tub and shower, sink, and bidet toilet.

The toilet in the Central Wing Standard Room is a small modular style toilet with a shower/bath, sink and Japanese Toilet all in the same area. It is pretty small, the photos I have here make it look slightly bigger than it is. But it is still really utilitarian and functional.

For modular toilets it is one of the better ones that I have used before. There is a lot more shelf space as the toilet and sink are integrated into one, so there is more place for you to place your stuff.

The bathtub also has a really nice round shape that fits your body, unlike some other hotels where it’s just a long rectangle.

Toilet Amenities

Unlike other business hotels (or hotels in general actually), APA Hotel actually provides the usual toilet amenities like toothbrushes and shavers etc. Not only that, but these are some of the nicest quality amenities I have used so far.

If you are familiar with Schick shavers, they have one model where the tip has a gel strip that lubricates your face when you are shaving. APA Hotel provides the reusable version and it’s a smart idea as you don’t need to have the trouble of using the shaving cream etc.

I probably spoke too much about shavers but basically I was really impressed with the quality that they provided.

Central Wing Standard Room Cleaning

APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi does not do daily full room cleaning by default. They do it every 3 days instead. If you want the room to be cleaned you would need to tell the front desk by 10am or place the clean the room magnet on the door.

They do change the towels, top up amenities and clear the trash daily.

Central Wing Standard Room Pricing

I stayed one night in early July 2026 and it was ¥7,976 including taxes and fees. You can check current rates here.

APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi Hotel Facilities

Here are the facilities that you can find at the hotel:

Large Public Bath “Genyo no Yu” (玄要の湯)

There is an indoor and open-air bath that are free for guests. It is open from 6am to 10am and 3pm to 2am. Tattoos are not allowed. You can actually check how crowded the baths are from the TV in your room.

Other Facilities

The hotel also has other facilities like a coin laundry, microwaves, ice machines, vending machines and trouser press.

I didn’t get to eat here this time as I had an early flight to catch, but it’s something I will try next time.

Some Tips

  • The hotel does not have a taxi service. But you can book the taxis to the hotel yourself.
  • The automatic check in machines only accept card payment.

Is APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi Worth It?

The main purpose of the APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi Standard Room is for short “business” like stays and transits to the airport or shinkansen. And it excels in those areas. Although every function is optimised for the “businessman”, it does not neglect the comfort side of a hotel room although it does not have the bells and whistles of a resort.

If that is what you are looking for in a hotel, then I recommend staying at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi. But if you are looking for something to stay for longer and to explore Fukuoka and beyond, I think you might want to stay in a bigger room or hotel.

I also don’t recommend this hotel if you are on a driving holiday and are staying multiple days due to the parking situation. If you are on a driving holiday and need a hotel with better parking, check out this hotel that is nearby and has a really classy lobby.

Or if you don’t mind staying outside Fukuoka CBD, check out this hotel with rooms that look like a modern Japanese home.

FAQ – APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi

1) What is the difference between APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi Central and West?

Central has the public bath, breakfast restaurant, parking and luggage storage all in the building — it also opened slightly later (April 2021 vs March 2021) and has a larger lobby. West is smaller and quieter with fewer room types available, and guests need to walk outside to Central for breakfast and bath access. We stayed in the Central building.

2) Is breakfast included at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi?

No — breakfast is at the Hakata Hanamidori restaurant on the first floor of the Central building and costs ¥2,200 if prepaid or ¥2,400 on the day for adults (¥1,200/¥1,300 for preschool children, free for age 3 and under). Served from 6:30am to 10:00am, last entry 9:30am. Highlights include Mizutaki Udon, Seiro-Mushi chicken and Gona Kanpachi sesame yellowtail.

3) Is there parking at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi?

Yes — a mechanical parking garage with 16 spaces at ¥1,800 per night, first come first serve with no reservations. The mechanical system stacks cars automatically. We parked at the nearby Ekihigashi Parking Lot instead (¥300/hour) since we were returning a rental car. This hotel is not recommended if you’re on a multi-day driving holiday — the parking situation is too limited and inconvenient.

4) Does APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi have an onsen?

Not a traditional onsen but there is a large public bath called Genyo no Yu (玄要の湯) with indoor and open-air baths, free for hotel guests. Open 6:00am to 10:00am and 3:00pm to 2:00am. No tattoos allowed. You can check the current queue from the TV dashboard in your room before heading down.

5) How do I check in at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi?

Check-in can be done via the APA app (アパ直) or through the automated check-in machines in the lobby. Download the app in advance, import your reservation and make payment — at the hotel you just scan a QR code at the machine and you’re done. Note that the check-in machines only accept cash if you haven’t pre-paid via the app. Check-in time is from 3:00pm, checkout is at 10:00am.

6) Is the APA app worth downloading?

Yes — the APA app (アパ直) makes the check-in process significantly faster. You can import your reservation, make payment in advance and complete check-in with a QR code scan at the machine. Without the app, the machines still work but cash only applies if you haven’t paid in advance.

7) Does APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi have daily room cleaning?

Not by default — rooms are cleaned every 3 days. If you want cleaning on a specific day, request it at the front desk by 10:00am or place the room cleaning magnet on the door. Towels are changed, amenities are topped up and trash is collected daily regardless.

8) What room types are available at APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi?

Central building has Standard rooms (10-11m², 140cm bed), Queen rooms (12m², 160cm bed), Twin rooms (14m², 2×120cm beds) and Deluxe Twin rooms (~21m², 2×110cm beds, accessible). West building has Standard and Deluxe Twin only — no Queen or Twin rooms. We stayed in the Central Wing Standard Room which comfortably fits two people despite its compact size.

9) Is APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi good for tourists?

Yes for short stays, transit nights or anyone arriving or departing via Hakata Station or Fukuoka Airport — the 3-minute walk to the station is genuinely unbeatable. Less ideal for longer stays where you’ll want more space and storage, or for driving holidays where the mechanical parking situation becomes a real inconvenience.

10) Is APA Hotel Hakata Eki Chikushiguchi worth it?

Yes — if you go in knowing what it is. At ¥7,976 all-in for a one-night stay with a public bath, APA app check-in, TV dashboard, quality amenities and 3 minutes from Hakata Station, it delivers excellent value for a transit or business-style stay. Not the right choice for extended family trips or driving holidays, but for what it’s designed for it genuinely excels.
