Earlier in March 2025 I traveled to Hong Kong for a short trip and if you happen to be in Hong Kong International Airport and love planes, you might want to check out the Hong Kong Sky Deck and Sky Bridge.

The Hong Kong Airport Sky Bridge and Sky Deck are new indoor viewing areas/galleries that gives you a 360 degree view of the airport and surrounding planes. It is the highest point of the airport (besides the control tower) and is meant to be an iconic feature for travelers. If you have good eyesight you can even see the construction of the new terminal 2.

All photos on this page are mine, shot on an iPhone 11 pro.

How do I get there?

HKIA Sky Deck (Terminal 1)

The Sky Deck is marked in red. You need a boarding pass to access.

So obviously you would need to be flying (or have arrived) at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1 to access the area. Depending on where you start from, you want to look out for signs leading you to Gates 13 to 22 (or the satellite terminal),there should be an atrium walkway entrance that then leads you to the Sky Bridge and Sky Deck (and satellite terminal).

If you are unsure, there is an unmanned convenience store named Travel Well near the entrance of the atrium walkway so look out for that. Unmanned stores are still rare today so you will probably be quite intrigued as you walk by.

Once you have entered, take the escalator up and you would have reached the Sky Bridge. There is also a lift if you are using baggage trolleys, have a baby stroller or are in a wheelchair. As you can’t take the escalator if you have one of these. They have small pylons that prevent you from doing so.

Tickets Pricing

Entrance to the Hong Kong Airport Sky Deck and Sky Bridge are free of charge. No fees or tickets are required. (Well except your plane boarding pass.) It is open 24/7 and never closes but some of the restaurants and food places will be closed.

The Hong Kong Airport Sky Bridge is 200 meters long, 20 meters wide and 28 meters above ground allowing aircraft as big as the Airbus A380 to pass through underneath. Unfortunately there were not any aircraft traveling underneath the Sky Bridge while I was there. It will depend on the flight schedules and whether the control tower instructs the aircraft to taxi that way.

There are some shops, food places and restaurants that you can check out within the Sky Bridge Hong Kong Airport if you would like to spend more time there. There are also basic amenities like toilets and changing rooms.

At the end of the Sky Bridge (before you take the escalator/lift down to the satellite terminal) there is an entrance to the Sky Deck. From the Sky Deck you are able to see a 360 degree view of Hong Kong International Airport. You can pretty much see air planes take off and land from all three runways.

The Sky Deck also includes a panorama photo of the view out of the window, with indicators to show what you are looking at. There is also a 3D model of the Hong Kong International Airport so you can see the layout and also what the new Terminal 2 (HKIA T2) will look like once it has been completed. There is also a wooden platform seating area for visitors to sit down and admire the view.

There are binoculars for use as well for free.

Are the Sky Bridge and Sky Deck Busy?

No it was not busy at all, which is strange for a plane observatory gallery. But I think it depends on what time you happen to visit. I was there on a Tuesday afternoon so there were barely anyone walking along the SkyBridge and even fewer in the Sky Deck. So you would have plenty of opportunities to take the pictures you want.

Sky Bridge Intervals Bar

If you are transiting or are not in a rush, you might want to visit the Intervals Bar on the Sky Bridge. The Intervals Bar has seating around big windows that offer great views of the Hong Kong International Airport.

They are open from 7am to 2am and they have signature cocktail “flights” (which is sets of 2 to 5 mini cocktails) that allow you to try several of their flavours. The number of drinks depends on how much time you have before your next flight.

I didn’t eat at the Intervals Bar as I had access to the SilverKris Lounge, but I think it’s a good alternative if you don’t have access to the lounge and want some place to relax and have good food. You can check out their cocktail menu and food menu so you can decide if you want to stop by here.

Would I Recommend it?

Yes I would absolutely recommend SkyDeck and SkyBridge Hong Kong especially if you are an aviation geek or love great views. Not only do you get good views, it is a really ‘low effort’ kind of tourist attraction. You’ll be done in about 10 minutes and it’s free of charge! (You might even have to talk past it to get to a gate.) I was in a bit of a rush myself as I was enjoying the SilverKris Lounge, but I still had time to enjoy a great view and snap some photos.

The only ‘negatives’ I will say is that because it’s indoors, so your photographs or videos might have reflections because of the windows. Unless you have a good camera, accessories or good photography skills.

And also its not free to the public as you would need to have a boarding pass to access the viewing gallery.
