Another Disclaimer: I visited Kumamoto right before the earthquake in July 26. Please check on the current status of these places before visiting. Especially before going to the Aso region.
I am a big fan of One Piece anime/manga and when I found out that there were statues of the characters scattered around Kumamoto, it left me with no choice but to visit every single one of them.
If you are a fellow One Piece fan I think you are going to enjoy this as I will let you know what my experience was like, what is the preferred route and order to visit them, and also where to get the limited edition figurine for each One Piece Character.

Why Are the One Piece Statues in Kumamoto?
In the beginning I thought that the statues were just a way to commemorate the success of the manga and anime so they put statues all over Kumamoto, the hometown of One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.
But when I got there I realised that it’s actually a collaboration between the creator Eiichiro Oda and Kumamoto as part of the One Piece Kumamoto Revival Project. Where each character’s placement ties into the recovery of the Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016.
So it’s pretty cool that there is a deeper meaning to the statues instead of just a fan service thing.
Map & Route Overview
So there are 10 statues for the 10 different characters and they are split into halves with 5 of them around Kumamoto City and Mifune. And another 5 are further East well into the Aso region. What I did was to split it into 2 days, one day to visit the 5 that are around Kumamoto City and the other 5 in the Aso region.
Also, driving is crucial if you want to be able to see 5 of them in a day. Especially the Aso circuit. Taking public transport will take forever to see all of them and I don’t recommend doing that. If you don’t have a car, you can compare rental cars in Kumamoto here.
One Piece Statue Figurines – Where to buy them
One really cool thing is that you can buy limited edition figurines of each One Piece character near the statue. It comes in two designs: one bronze version (the same as the statue) and one coloured version. They can only be found at the designated shops near the statues and can’t be found at other hobby stores or the Mugiwara store at Amu Plaza.
There is also a limit of 3 figurines per person so scalpers can’t resell them.
Kumamoto Circuit
The statues in the Kumamoto Circuit are the Luffy, Chopper, Sanji, Brook and Jinbe Statues. The order that you visit them depends on whether you want to start in the city outwards or vice versa.
For me I decided to start outwards in because of the rush hour traffic around the city. And there was a lot of intermittent rain that day so I was hoping that it would clear by the time I reached the next statue.
I started at around 10am and saw the last statue at around 4pm. This included shopping time and eating time and Lawson コンビニ breaks in between. So you might be able to do it faster if you only went from one statue to another.
You could arguably see Zoro’s statue as well if you had the time. But if you want to relax a bit and take breaks between statues I recommend just doing 5 statues a day.
Jinbe Statue @ Sumiyoshi Seaside Park
The first statue that we visited was the Jinbe Statue and it’s located at Sumiyoshi Seaside Park to the South West of Kumamoto. About 40 minutes drive from the city center. There is plenty of free parking here as well.
You might want to bring a jacket for this one if the weather is rainy as the winds were super strong. The kind where your caps can get blown of kind of strong. Becareful as some parts of the park are sandy and the wind can blow the sand into your face.
The Jinbe Statue itself is towards the inside of the park and you can get a nice photograph of Jinbe with the sea backdrop. Be sure to do the pose as well!
For those who don’t know, Jinbe is a fishman, a race in the One Piece anime who are half fish half man. So that’s why his statue is placed by the sea.
It was high tide on the day that we visited so we could not see the Nagabeta Seabed Road (長部田海床路). It is a unique concrete road that extends about 1km from land straight into the Ariake Sea. It would have made a really nice photo if we could.
There is also another photo taking spot to the left of the statue where you can take nice photos of the Seabed Road.
Jinbe Figurine @ OKAGESAMA MOBA
You can find the Jinbe Figurine inside OKAGESAMA MOBA, the supermarket inside Sumiyoshi Seaside Park. There is a whole section for One Piece collectibles and memorabilia, together with other Kumamon souvenirs. Probably one of the more interesting things on sale is the Robin and Nami Skin Care Lotion collection.

You can even find autographs from the Luffy and Usopp anime voice actors.
The Jinbe Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
OKAGESAMA MOBA turned out to be quite a nice surprise as my family spent quite a long time inside looking at souvenirs and different food and snacks.
Brook Statue @ Mifune Fureai Park Dinosaur Park

Next up is the Brook Statue and it’s about 40 mins away at Mifune Fureai Park Dinosaur Park. Mifune Fureai Park Dinosaur Park is a dinosaur themed free park in Mifune. So you can find things like dinosaur monuments, sculptures and of course Brook Statue.
For those who don’t know, Brook is a musician and he was placed here because Mifune is home to Heisei College of Music. And I guess also because he is made out of bones and Mifune Dinosaur Museum nearby with lots of skeletons and fossils.
There is also free parking at Mifune Fureai Park Dinosaur Park.
Where to buy Brook Statue Figurine?
You can buy the Brook statue figurine at community center. You will walk past it on the way to the statue. Inside you can also find One Piece collectibles, some souvenirs and gatcha machines.
Brook Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Sanji Statue @ Mashikicho Koryujoho Center
Next statue we visited was the Sanji Statue Mashikicho Koryujoho Center and it was about 20 mins drive away. There is plenty of free parking around Mashikicho Koryujoho Center but the one you want to go to is the one nearest to the statue. If you don’t want to walk too far that is.
Sanji’s statue is placed just beside the track and field area of the center. You can get a really nice photo of Sanji with the running track in the background.
I was not really sure why Sanji was placed there in the beginning. It turns out that area (Mashiki Town) was one of the hardest hit areas during the earthquake and so the school lunch center that prepared a lot of meals for the schools was heavily damaged.
Sanji is a cook in the anime for those who don’t know and so he was placed there so he could help “cook” and “prepare” meals for the school children. Quite a heartwarming connection to the local area.
Where to buy Sanji Statue Figurine?
The Sanji Statue Figurine is sold at an office inside the Mashikicho Koryujoho Center. There is a machine where you purchase a ticket for the figurine and it is cash only. You can then exchange the ticket for the figurine.
Sanji Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Chopper Statue @ Kumamoto City Zoo and Botanical Garden
The next statue we visited was the Chopper Statue at Kumamoto City Zoo and Botanical Garden. It’s about a 20 minute drive a way from the Sanji Statue. Chopper statue is right in front of the main entrance. Probably the cutest and smallest statue of them all, Chopper is really popular and you can expect to see a lot of kids queuing up to take photos.
There is free parking on weekdays at the Kumamoto City Zoo but its ¥200 per vehicle on weekends. We visited on a weekend so we had to pay. I actually noticed a car waiting along the side of the road and suspect some people may have done that to avoid paying the parking.
Besides being a reindeer (not raccoon), Chopper was placed here because he “rushed to the zoo” to care for the traumatized animals who were affected by the earthquake. As it had to close for nearly 3 years.
Where to buy Chopper Statue Figurine?

The Chopper Statue Figurine can be found just inside the Kumamoto City Zoo entrance to the right. There is a small table set up and a staff there and they accept cash only.
Chopper Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Monkey D. Luffy Statue @ Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office
The last one for the Kumamoto Circuit and the most popular one by far is the Monkey D. Luffy Statue at Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office. As the leader of the Straw Hats you can expect large amounts of people queuing up to take photos, doing the poses etc. I had a bit of wait but it was worth it.
The parking situation here is the most tricky as parking at the government office seems to be for staff only. And on weekends it’s completely closed. There are quite a lot of paid parking places around the area however so it’s not that bad.
Luffy is placed here at the Prefecture Government Office as he “stays back” to oversee the overall earthquake recovery efforts.
Where to buy Monkey D. Luffy Statue Figurine?

There are two places where you can get the Luffy statue figurine: Hotel Kumamoto Terrsa and the Lawson at the Kumamoto Prefectural Office.
For me I got it at the lobby of Hotel Kumamoto Terrsa where I parked as well.
Monkey D. Luffy Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥3850 for the coloured version. It’s a bit higher for the coloured version as it’s Luffy and Kumamon together.
Aso Circuit
The One Piece Statues in the Aso Circuit are Zoro, Nami, Robin, Usopp and Franky and I did it in this order as I was starting from the closest to the city. There isn’t much variation for this loop as this was the shortest distance between each statue.
I started at around 10am as well and saw the last statue at around 3pm. And made it back to the city after 4pm due to traffic. I did not stop for lunch or many breaks for this one so compared to the Kumamoto Circuit the travel distances and time for this Aso Circuit is really long.
Get your cameras and video cameras out because these statues will take you around the Mount Aso region which was absolutely stunning to look at.
Zoro Statue @ Ozu Central Park
The first statue in this loop is the Zoro Statue at Ozu Central Park (大津中央公園) and it’s about 30+ mins out from Kumamoto City Center. There is free parking at the park and once you turn in you will see the statue quickly.
As the main swordsman of the group, Zoro was placed here because of the Ozu Town’s strong connection to Kendo, a form of Japanese swordsmanship. As many martial arts facilities were damaged during the earthquake, Zoro “helped” to train with the children in the park so they could continue practicing while the town recovered.

There’s another statue in the park of Karaimo-kun (からいもくん像) and that is the official mascot of Ozu Town. I couldn’t tell at first but he is actually a sweet potato because they are the local specialty and are one of the top sweet potato producing areas in Kumamoto.
Where to buy Zoro Statue Figurine?

There are two places to buy the Zoro Statue Figurine: Hobby Shop So (ホビーショップ創) just across Ozu Park and Ozu Roadside Station about 7 minutes away.
I actually forgot to look for the Zoro statue figurine and drove off to the next statue. So I had to come back after completing the loop. I went to the Ozu Roadside Station instead as it was on the way back.
The Zoro Statue Figurines are not on the shelves, you have to go to the cashier to buy them.
Zoro Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Nami Statue @ Moe no Sato
The next one in this circuit about 15 minutes drive away is the Nami Statue. And this was a really beautiful surprise as when you first reach you would see a beautiful sunflower field (if you visit in summer).
Moe no Sato is a popular roadside local produce market for locals and tourist at the foot of Tawarayama Mountain. They have restaurants, food shops, market and hiking trails nearby as well.
Nami’s Statue was placed here because the local wind turbines were damaged and she “helped” them to get them running again (if you know what I’m talking about).
Her statue is also surrounded by orange trees and small pinwheels, a nice touch to add elements of her backstory (again if you know what I’m talking about).
The surrounding mountains look really stunning as well, reminds me a lot of a certain Microsoft screensaver actually. I didn’t have time to explore more of the hiking areas because of time, but I will be back to check out Moe no Sato again.
Where to buy Nami Statue Figurine?

You can find Nami’s Statue Figurine in the market and unlike some other shops they are not found on the shelves. Instead there is a plastic card, one for each type, so you exchange it at the cashier for the actual figurine.
Nami Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Nico Robin Statue @ Tokai University Aso Campus
Robin’s Statue is about 20+ minutes drive away and I highly recommend taking the mountain East (instead of driving back to the city). This is because you get really beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Along the way I stopped at Observation point “Mount Omine and Takayuhara Plateau”, one of the many in the area and you could see a really nice view with Mount Omine in the background. Worth stopping for a bit even if you’re short on time.

Back to Robin’s Statue, I actually parked at the Kumamoto Earthquake Memorial Museum KIOKU and the parking there is free. From there it’s about a 5 minute walk to Robin’s statue at the university.
The earthquake museum has indoor exhibits with displays and artifacts from the 2016 earthquake. There is even a damaged building that has been preserved for the public to see. I didn’t have time to visit it properly but it is definitely on my list for next time.
Robin’s statue is here because she is an archaeologist and this area has been dedicated to preserving and passing on historical memory and lessons from the 2016 earthquake. Robin “rushed” to the campus to research and support the recovery efforts so that the lessons would not be forgotten.
Where to buy Nico Robin Statue Figurine?

Robin’s Statue Figurine can be found in the museum shop. There’s a section full of One Piece collectibles and omiyage. Together with the usual Kumamon and Kumamoto related omiyage.
They also sell a lot of earthquake related necessities such as flashlights, small radios and stuff like toilet paper and ready to eat packaged food.
Robin Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Usopp Statue @ Aso Station
Usopp’s Statue is about 20 mins away from the Robin’s Statue and it’s right in front of JR Aso Station in the heart of Aso City. You can get a really nice photo of Usopp Statue with the beautiful Aso Mountains in the background.
This place is extremely packed on a weekend so parking near the statue is usually packed. I had to park across the main road (National Route 57) and walk over. Parking was free but it was about a 10 minute walk in the hot summer sun.
It’s a bit difficult to explain why Usopp was placed here if you don’t follow. But basically he is quite good with plants (besides being the marksman of the group) and so when the earthquake happened, he “came” here to help regrow the damaged grasslands that are essential to the local ecosystem in Aso.
Where to buy Usopp Statue Figurine?
Usopp’s Statue Figurine can be found inside the supermarket of the Aso Roadside Station. His statue figurine can only be found at the cashier.
Usopp Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Franky Statue @ Takamori Station
The last one is Franky Statue at Takamori, literally on the opposite side of Mount Aso. You can either drive West back where you came from or drive East, both will take about 40 minutes. I recommend driving East and completing the loop around Mount Aso as it will give you a nice quick tour.
You can also drive through the middle of Mount Aso but it is about 10 minutes longer drive time. You get to see beautiful views as well but depending on your itinerary you may not have time to really enjoy it. I suggest coming back another day to really visit all the Mount Aso viewing decks so you have more time to enjoy it.
Franky’s Statue is just at Takamori Station and there is free parking at the station however there aren’t that many spaces. If it fills up you might have to park slightly further out.
Franky is the shipwright of the group so he was sent here to Takamori Station to rebuild the Minami-Aso Railway Line that had large sections that were destroyed or cut off by the earthquake.
One Piece Sunny-Go Train
From Thursdays to Sundays you might get to see a special Sunny-Go Train (サニー号トレイン) that runs between Tateno Station and Takamori Station. It was meant to celebrate the full restoration of the train line. I didn’t get to see it this time however, I just saw the normal version of the train.
Where to buy Franky Statue Figurine?
Franky Statue Figurine can be found inside the train station gift shop. There is also a section of the same One Piece and Kumamon/Kumamoto Omiyage. Together with some train related souvenirs.
I actually got a sticker as well about the Sunny Go train that promotes the 10th anniversary exhibition that was held earlier in 2026.
Franky Statue Figurine is ¥2200 for the Bronze version and ¥2640 for the coloured version.
Some Tips
- Try to visit on a sunny day to get better pictures especially in the Mount Aso region.
- Prepare cash as not all shops that sell the statue figurines accept card payments.
Is the One Piece Statue Tour Worth It?
If you are a fan of One Piece it is absolutely a must see if you are traveling to the Kyushu region. If you like collecting figurines and collectibles it is also definitely a must buy.
You also learn more about the recovery efforts in Kumamoto after the earthquake. So it’s not just a fan service tourist attraction but there is a deeper meaning behind each character’s statue location that warms your heart. Similar to the One Piece story itself where the characters are always trying to help others in need.
If you are not a fan it might not interest you. But I must say that my family were quite intrigued and followed me around for the Kumamoto Circuit. And along the way they got to see more of Kumamoto and more local shops that they probably would not have seen otherwise.
If you have friends or family members that are interested, it might be a good idea to tag along. You might just see another side of Kumamoto.
Aso is high on my shortlist as the place is really beautiful and it was a shame that I had to rush through the place. I will definitely be back to visit again.
What else do to in Kumamoto?
ONE PIECE Mugiwara store Kumamototen

Now that you have seen all 10 statues, the next thing to do is to check out the official One Piece merchandise store in Kumaoto (and Japan)! The Kumamoto outlet is at Amu Plaza Kumamoto on the 6th floor and you can see all sorts of One Piece merchandise imaginable.
There is also every edition of the One Piece Manga on sale including the latest editions so it’s quite impressive.
They do not sell the limited edition One Piece Statue Figurines here so you still need to get out there and find them!
Food to try from Aso
While you are in Aso, here are some food to try:
Aso Milk
If you are visiting, one thing you need to try is the Aso Milk & Beef.
Aso Milk (as you can guess) is milk that is produced from the cows raised in Aso’s farmlands. They drink the area’s natural groundwater and locally grown grass. They use low-temperature pasteurization that preserves its natural sweetness, flavour, and richness.
Putting the brochure aside all you need to know is that it taste really good and it’s worth trying. You can find it easily from most shops in Kumamoto.
Aso Beef

Another must try from the Aso region is it’s beef. In Kumamoto, the Aso Beef Don is famous and a definite must try. We tried this at あか牛Dining yoka-yoka サクラマチ店 at Sakura Machi Shopping Center.
Where to Stay in Kumamoto
Here are some places that I have stayed in Kumamoto so far:
KOKO HOTEL Premier Kumamoto
KOKO Hotel Premier Kumamoto is a modern 4 star hotel located inside Sakura Machi with rooms that have views overlooking Kumamoto Castle. It really doesn’t get better than this when it comes to location as you have bus & tram access and loads of shopping and food options.
Shimotori Shopping Arcade is just across the road and the tram gives you access to Kumamoto Amu Plaza. Only thing is that it does not have a public bath or pool.
Read our full review of KOKO HOTEL Premier Kumamoto including room details, the castle view, parking costs and whether it’s worth booking at off-peak vs peak season pricing.
Ref Kumamoto by Vessel Hotels
Ref Kumamoto by Vessel Hotels is another option and is right in the middle of Shimotori Shopping Arcade. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to food and shopping and ease of public access is fantastic too.
This hotel comes with a public bath, pool and a manga library with around 10,000 titles that you can bring to your room to read.
Read our full review of Ref Kumamoto by Vessel Hotels including the public bath, manga library, parking options and whether it’s worth it if you’re travelling by car.
FAQ – One Piece Statues Kumamoto
1) How many One Piece statues are there in Kumamoto?
There are 10 statues in total, one for each member of the Straw Hat crew. They are split into two circuits — 5 statues around Kumamoto City and Mifune (the Kumamoto Circuit), and 5 statues through the Aso region (the Aso Circuit).
2) Why are there One Piece statues in Kumamoto?
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is from Kumamoto, and the statues were created as part of the One Piece Kumamoto Revival Project — a collaboration between Oda and Kumamoto Prefecture to support the region’s recovery after the 2016 earthquake. Each character’s statue location ties into the earthquake recovery in a meaningful way specific to that area.
3) Do I need to be a One Piece fan to enjoy the statue tour?
Not necessarily — even non-fans can enjoy it. My family who don’t follow the anime joined me for the Kumamoto Circuit and ended up discovering local shops and areas they wouldn’t have seen otherwise. That said, knowing the characters and their backstories does add a meaningful extra layer to each visit.
4) Is a car necessary to see all 10 statues?
Yes — a car is strongly recommended, especially for the Aso Circuit where the statues are spread across a large geographic area and public transport connections are limited. We did each circuit in about 5–6 hours by car including breaks.
5) How long does it take to see all 10 One Piece statues?
Allow two full days — one for the Kumamoto Circuit (approximately 10am to 4pm including breaks and shopping) and one for the Aso Circuit (approximately 10am to 3pm with minimal breaks). The Aso Circuit involves longer drives between statues so plan accordingly.
6) Where can I buy the One Piece figurines in Kumamoto?
Each character has a designated figurine sales point near their statue — the figurines are exclusive to these locations and cannot be found at regular hobby stores or the Mugiwara Store at Kumamoto Amu Plaza. Each figurine comes in a bronze version (¥2,200) and a coloured version (¥2,640 for most characters, ¥3,850 for Luffy which includes a Kumamon version).
7) Are the One Piece figurine shops cash only?
Most shops are cash only — the Sanji figurine location specifically uses a ticket machine that is cash only. Prepare cash before you go.
8) Can I visit both circuits in one day?
It is technically possible but not recommended — you would need to rush through both and would miss a lot of the charm and local detail along the way. The Aso Circuit especially deserves time to enjoy the scenery. Two days is the ideal approach.
9) Is there parking at each One Piece statue location?
Most statue locations have free parking — the main exception is the Luffy statue at Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office where office parking is staff-only and the area is closed on weekends. Paid parking is available nearby. The Kumamoto City Zoo is free on weekdays and ¥200 per vehicle on weekends.
10) Is there anything to see besides the statues on the Aso Circuit?
Yes — the drive through the Aso region is genuinely beautiful, and there are multiple scenic viewpoints worth stopping at along the way. The Kumamoto Earthquake Memorial Museum KIOKU near Robin’s statue is also worth visiting for a powerful look at the 2016 earthquake’s impact, even if you only have limited time.
